herb gardens?

This summer i was thinkeing about keeping a small herb garden, but i kno nothing about herbs. Like i dont know if i should keep each seperate or grow them in the same soil/pot. and also what are some assentials you need (herb wise) in spells and rituals. Dose it take alot if care?
