New Year
New Year
I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I was wondering if someone could explain to me why Samhain is considered by Pagans to be the "new year". It seems to make more sense to me for the new year to begin in spring when everything in nature is being renewed and reborn... just curious.

Re: New Year
It has to do with the celtic calender and the fact that this is the time when the sun god dies, since for kelts the new day started in the night of the day before they thought that the new year would start from darkness as well. So at the start of winter when the days would be shorter and nights would be longer they saw this as the beginning of something new.
