But what the three cards will represent? Past, present and future?

while shuffling the cards i would ask is the boy dead or a live. Flipping one card is enough to get your answer. However if you use a three card spread i would be looking for a in the card on the left information as to the boys recent past the one in the middle in reference to what is currently going on now the current state of the boy and the card on the right to say what the outcome is to be.
Re: Reading to see if someone is dead or alive?
You could very well create a precise spread, as previously suggested, 3 cards should be enough.
Something like:
1. Where the child is now
2. His present state
3. What should I know about him?
You can add more questions if you want more details. It never hurts to ask, and if you're supposed to know, you'll get your answers. That's my experience, at least.
Good luck and I hope the child is alright!

Besides runes I have been learning the Thoth
Deck. Mostly because I want to understand the
Thought processes in reading tarot.
In runes asking something that specific or should
I say that dramatic is problematic as much of divination
Has to do with both the objective and subjective
World.
The idea of fate and the current paths of the
Individual. I'm not sure how to separate the subjective
And the objective in that situation.
