The Halloween Tarot
The Halloween Tarot
Hi folks! I just obtained yet another tarot deck, it's called the Halloween Tarot ...created by Kipling West. I am really resonating with it. The imagery is much different than the sort of thing I normally like, but perhaps because the pic's are based on reproductions of cards and such from 1920's Halloween era.
Has anybody else used this deck?, and what is your take on it?

Re: The Halloween Tarot
I've been looking at this deck on and off over the years, trying to decide whether liking the imagery is more or less important than feeling like it's readable...
...so alas I've never used the deck, but I'd also be very interested to hear what everyone (including you, Firebird) thinks of it, and how your experiences go/have gone.

Re: The Halloween Tarot
I have the Halloween Tarot. I haven't used it as much as I have my others. I tend to use whatever deck feels most appropriate to the situation. The Halloween Tarot seems to have a more narrow range of appropriate situations.

There is clowns in some of the cards...I am really not a clown person, rather... they freak me out. So, as a scary deck it has kinda hit me that way. But there is something else, maybe I like that old 1920's look. (except the clowns) I like the scarey part of Halloween, not sure if I could use the deck at other times of the year...who knows? Also, most of the pictures are very similar to Ryder/Waite but the deck has changes the symbols...

Haha, what a fun deck. But yeah, I could see how you'd feel it is a bit too visually busy to use year-round.

Re: The Halloween Tarot
I can see this deck as being kind of Samhain specific. But I do see a way that the Halloween Tarot can be used more often. I can see it being used often by someone who really loves Halloween and/or its associated imagery such as vampires, bats, ghosts, etc. I can also see it being used by and for people that are cat lovers. From what I've seen of the cards on Google, the little black cat seems to appear in many of the cards. For that reason, it would probably be a bad deck to do a reading for somebody that's superstitious about black cats.
I like the images.

Re: The Halloween Tarot
The little black cat appears in every card. So far one of my favorite cards is the 6 of pumpkins, the witch depicted therein is not hideous looking!
Thanks for chiming in Vervain, Snow, Kassandra and Echo...Ya know it will likely end up with the others I only take out rarely. I find that the whole deck needs to speak to me in order to get good readings, and while I like the cards quite a bit, there are a couple cards that aren't so great....the cat meandering through the whole deck is kinda cool, I find that the kitty can lend some insight, depending on where she is.
Halloween Halloween, I love Halloween
Just a few more days to the blessed Hallowed Eve. get ready to fly!

I'm sure she could help you, and there are plenty of resources in this forum and around the net--try Biddy Tarot and Mary K Greer's blog. You can also read Waite's Pictorial Key to the Tarot at http://www.sacred-texts.com/tarot/pkt/

Re: The Halloween Tarot
Aeclectic is really one of the best sites out there for Tarot and Oracles. Time and again I am just so glad it exists. Thanks, Kassandra, for pointing that out.
