I am having the same problems too. It is hard for me to quiet my mind I usually have a song stuck in my mind for some reason. I can feel a pull sometimes and then snap out of it. Practice makes perfect I guess.

I'm often plagued by negative or musical thoughts too.

I searched on youtube and they have a few videos on guided astral projection. I may give them a try soon.

The trigger to astral projection is different for everyone. Some are more naturally skilled than others to the point that they can even achieve an OBE by simply relaxing. For me its also quite hard, Ive only done it two times before and let me tell ya you don't want to panic otherwise you just get sucked back into your body (at least for me that happened the first time). The second time I wasn't panicked but didn't feel like dealing with it because I was just tired and wanted to sleep, I was sleeping over at a friends house and we thought it was smart idea to stay up till 2:00. If it helps my trigger (I think) is when I'm really sleepy and I just don't want to think of anything then the OBE just kind of happens.Yet again I'm always thinking of stuff when I go to sleep.

Clearing your mind to experience and OBE, Astrally travel and Dream Lucidly can be quite a challenge. There are various ways to help clear your mind. My go-to is Celtic Music. It is so beautiful and calming, after a rough day I can lay in a bath, listen to the music, then go to bed to listen to the music and allow my spirit to soar as my mind is at peace with no thoughts getting in the way, allowing my physical body to relax. Here is a wonderful video I found that may help you. Good Luck!

I am sure that everything come with training. Many people give up because meditation is really hard at beginning. I noticed something very interesting while doing thoughtless meditation. When we think of something, are eyes kinda shut down and we don't see anything. It seems that brain need to shut off eyes so we have no distraction with picture and scenes we imagine. The point is, when you make a thought, it's mostly related to be visual, your eyes will shut down. What you have to do is to look darkness (closed eyes), and then thoughts can't come because it's not possible for brain to look environment and to show you yours imagination (thought). Be focused on that black color and don't think about it either. It works for me :P
