Are Moon phases necessary?

hi well ok i need to know is any way to substitute for missing a moon phase like most spells i come across you need to do on a certain moon phase but im not great at keeping track of moon phases so is there like a i dont know special candle i can light or herb mix i can make anything thanks for the advice.

I wouldnt worry about it. Spells may be suggested to do at a certian moon phase, on a certian day, with certian herbs, gems, candles or whatever.. it all may help, but it's not really necessary.

i also keep a jar of new moon & full moon water around.
i've posted how to make it somewhere on these boards.

While it IS more effective to do things on the appropriate moon phase, you can reword your spell to make it correspond. Example, for a money ritual on the waxing moon you may word it about money coming to you, but on a waning moon you may ask for your debts to be gone. Same end effect just different wording. Also, I go by the day of the week if I'm on the wrong moon phase.

If the moon phases are important to you, you could always find a witches calendar... I think Llewelen has one (just google "witches calendar"). Those usually have the current moon status on them too.
