Exactly ten days ago today I was choked by a staff member in the hospital during a "restraint."
She put her arm around my neck and choked me until I couldn't breathe.
I'm still bothered by it.

What were the circumstances that led to the incident?

It was like a fight type thing, I went to shove her because she was yelling at me and I told her to shut up and she said make me. I know it's totally my fault but it bothers me that someone could act so unprofessionally and instead of de-escalating the situation, take it to a whole other level.

I'm a little fuzzy on the details here.
Are you posting this because you want some outside thoughts? Or is it to get it off your chest? (Which is fine either way, I just want to check if you had anything particular about the situation you wanted to work out).
When you say "staff member," do you mean that the person choking you was a staff member? Where they a nurse, doctor, security, aide? Are you an employee or staff member of this hospital also? Were you a patient? What was going on in that moment? Were you a patient? Was it an inter-employee conflict? Do you have a history with this person? Were there any drugs or alcohol involved?
I'm not trying to be mean with this question, but sometimes it is best to ask ourselves the hard questions in order to wrap our minds around the situation in its entirety and thus move past it. Do you think it was their restraint method that was unprofessional and taking the situation to a "whole other level," or do you think it was you who changed the verbal conflict into a physical one by initiating the shoving that took the conflict from a verbal to a physical level?

If it was a takedown, that started with her yelling, that would be inappropriate behavior on her part. Not that you should have attempted to shove her, but she's supposed to be the professional.

Its mostly to get it off my chest. The person choking me was a staff member, i was a patient and the only drugs involved on my end was what they (the hospital) were giving me and they were an aide and i do have a history with this person

I understand.
If you ever feel like addressing the situation, there's always that filing a report for misconduct option.
Otherwise... sometimes people can be jerks.

Yeah. I mean i feel like an awful person for having this happen to me and I've been having nightmares about women lately. Because the person who did this was female.Vesca wrote:I understand.
