Feeling a pull toward a certain card?

Post by Autumn Jewel »

I'll start by saying that I have the Shadows of Oz deck. I felt drawn to this deck because I grew up with the movie (it's still my favorite to this day) and I loved the books growing up. Although I haven't read the books since I was about 10ish, I still remember the stories. I currently am rereading them to become reacquainted. I figured knowing the characters would help me learn tarot easier, and I was right, it's helping a lot. However, there is one card I do not like the artwork on. It's completely different from the others. And I know this deck had four different artists working on it. But this one card just doesn't fit it at all in my opinion. For some reason, I can't stop thinking about this card. But I'm not sure if it's because I hate the artwork, or the card calling me to tell me something. For now I'll keep the card a secret.

Thoughts?

Off the top of my head I'm thinking you could compare your version in your deck to other versions of the same card online. See how they sit with you.

I like this site for perusing versions of decks. It has ratings and reviews, and meanings as well.

Maybe look at a simple Rider Waite and then some others. Decks vary from version to version. There are some I have purchased because I love their major arcana and then the minors leave me cold.

Ok, a little correction on my part. Trying to do a little more research on this specific deck, I learned there were actually 18 artists, but 6 of them only did one card each, one of them probably being the card I'm referring to. I'm not sure where I got 4.

As for the card itself, I did research it and it has so many possible meanings that could pertain to me. I'm not sure if it's just one meaning, multiple, or none at all. Is it possible to do a reading with one card already set at the helm to find out more about what it's referring to?

Hi Autumn,

Just so I understand the question.....initially you were asking if you thought it was the artwork (way the card was represented) that made your mind linger on the card, or if it was that the card has a message for you.

If I understand you correctly it sound like you are thinking that there is something about the card and not the artwork-am I correct in my understanding?

So your question is not about determining if there is a message in the card, but instead your question is how to interpret the card? Is that right?

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound so confusing. I think what I'm trying to say is that I keep thinking about this card, but I'm not sure if it's because I don't like the artwork, or if it's the card trying to tell me something. I've done research and the card has multiple meanings that maybe could pertain to me. How can I be sure which one (artwork or meaning) it is? Does that make any sense? Sorry if I'm still sounding confusing.

My first reply above would be one potential solution. Look at the card in a few other decks. You can google them online. Do you keep getting a weird feeling about it when it's represented slightly differently? If you aren't drawn to it, or bothered by it, in other representations (other decks) then there's probably nothing.

If you keep getting pulled to it in other decks as well, then you may want to consider what the card means to you.

Lets hypothetically say that it is the card and not simply the artwork......clear your mind...ground....you can light a candle if you like.... Look at the card and start to look at which parts of the image draw your eye. When I read often my eye will go to a certain part of the card. There could be information there. Also, I consider the various meanings and quietly ponder which instinctually feels like it applies to me.

In addition, you can put your whole deck to work and do a spread asking more detail about what that card is trying to express. Might as well use it all.

When practicing tarot I would make sure I did a quick reading daily. For me, certain cards would appear more often and I began to learn that they represented me at a point in time. I would then dwell on the meaning of the card coming up most often. I found it would change over time.

I can tell when I read for others because I get cards that are less apt to come up for me. I can 'feel' that they are for someone else.

Does any of this resonate or help...does it even make sense?

I'm guessing this is what you where trying tell me in the first place. I guess we were confusing each other. But I took you advice and started looking at other decks. I now feel it is the card calling. Although what it's trying to say, I have yet to figure out. I've tried a spread, but it was a bit confusing. I'm still thinking it over. I going to do another one when I feel the time is right to see if I can get an answer that I can better understand. I finally found a good book that hopefully will help. Just waiting for it to come in the mail, along with a new deck I fell in love with when I was looking around smiley_dance

Thanks for your help!

Ah I see...well feel free to draw on the EUTM community to talk about the card. Some people here are great and have been reading for years. I do not claim to be a tarot expert but I would certainly do my best to help. Feel free to pm if you want to exchange more privately, or we can talk about more strategies for finding meaning.

What was the new deck then? Tell please!

And why not just leave the card out of your readings. I think it really helps to have an input when learning a guide or mentor to help you,

I have a card in Tarot of the Cat People that has always drawn me. It's a very sad illustration, because the homeless woman's cat has died, but over her shoulder, he's watching her from beyond. The card is the five of pentacles. I just always felt a kinship with the woman in the illustration. I've had many cats cross the Rainbow Bridge since then, but they still come back to visit. Someone always comes when it's another cat's time to cross.

My new deck came today! smiley_dance I pulled the deck out of the box and decided to pull the top card without shuffling. Guess what card it was? The very card that's been seemingly calling me. The Ace of Wands!
