Incense for consecration ritual

Merry meet, I am in the process of getting all the tools I need for practicing the craft. I read in one of the best books of solitary Wicca by Raymond Buckland about the consecration ritual for making your tools sacred. The ritual requires incense to be used. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding what type of incense to burn in a consecration ritual? Thank you very much and brightest blessings!

I am just starting out so I too have the same question, however with the books I have read frankencense and myrrh at the top two that I have come across the most. I have read using both together also enhances.

But I am new so I could be totally off key a bit.

Keep in mind that just like with everything else in Pagan ritual, there's rarely a right or wrong way to do things.

Nag Champa, its a blend containing sandalwood. It's a sacred incense for sanctifying and purifying.
Sandalwood, Sage and white sage are purifiers. So is sweet grass.

(You can use a smudge to cleanse your home.)

Opinions vary but this is a general list for common incense. (You can make your own too, I personally find that preferable)
Amber is knowledge and history.
Cedarwood is fire, strength and power.
Cinnamon is versitile, fire, passion, sexual desire, lust and more.
Frankincense is calm and peace.
Ginger is desire and lust. Lavender is beauty and romance. Lorries is mental clarity.
Myrrh is the sun, funerary, favor of the gods, spell amplifier.
Opium for dreams or sleep.
Patchouli hides the smell of pot...
Rose is love, sex,
Sandalwood is purify, any diety, fire and water
Vanilla is air, mental and intelligence

Ya I used frankincense for mine and most other rituals. I also use frankincense essential oil for my consecration oil. It feels the most spiritual to me.

Patchouli hides the smell of pot...

it's really unfortunate that you attribute this to patchouli. The herb has gotten a terrible bad rap because of this. People smell patchouli and immediately assume you are a pot head.
Patchouli has wonderful magical properties. It's rich dirt-like smell makes the herb most commonly associated with the Earth and wealth. It is used to draw money to ones self or to promote fertility to any spell. It is also an aphrodisiac used to draw lust to the user, however be aware of it's fertile qualities.

Wow, thank you so much for all of the herb suggestions. I will most definitely use frankincense and myrrh resin in the incense along with cedar wood, nag champa, and sage. Since I have a lot of knowledge when it comes to herbs, I will be grinding some of my own herbs to make the incense and also use one stick of nag champa incense that I got in a pack today from my pagan friend who works at Guardian. Once again, I thank you all for the wonderful suggestions.

For consecrating and cleansing I use either Sandalwood, or Sage smudges.

Sage smells better to me, but Sandalwood seems to make things "feel" more clean after I wash them in the smoke. The few times I've done it.

I use cones more than sticks because the smoke is more dense with a cone. It can be difficult to "cup" a handful of smoke from a stick, versus a cone.

That's just me.

I love Cunninghams consencration incense! Anyone have any experience with it or like to add in other ingredients?

I prefer sage over sandalwood. I associate sandalwood with Catholic funerals. I mostly avoid incense though, because the smoke is not good for my cats to be inhaling. Rituals can be "by the book," or as individual as you want/need. I like to look at what others have done, and incorporate the pieces that work for me, into my own ritual.
