Wands and Athames
Something I've wondered for a while is whether these have a place outside of ritual works. Do Wiccan's or witches use them as part of spells that are not full rituals or just as part of ritual work? I also know some druids use these as well but to a lesser extent of how. Any input is welcome.

I use my athame and staff as the protective symbols they are

How so? I've only heard of them as references to elemental powers of fire and air.CleverlyDisguised wrote:I use my athame and staff as the protective symbols they are

Knives, swords and staves are traditional weapons. Forms of protection. The symbolism is inherent in their forms

So are wands used as a stand in for a stave?CleverlyDisguised wrote:Knives, swords and staves are traditional weapons. Forms of protection. The symbolism is inherent in their forms

Though I prefer my staff given the option... I use a wand for ease of concealed carry

So do you do spell work in public then?

Re: Wands and Athames
Outside of Sabbat/Esbat ritual, I have used my wand, cauldron & pentacle to charge spells, my athame for charging protection spells, & wards, & my cauldron holds spell stuff to "slow cook" as I assemble them, while I'm working out a spell in my head. They help set a mood. When I do a Novena, the cauldron holds the candle & any petitions on top of the pentacle. Also I've used my tools as meditation prompts. My incense burner gets moved around a lot because I use it for daily aromatic offerings as well as clearing off cooking odors. Once I found an incense I could tolerate, I use it every day. When I have trouble sleeping, I'll stoke my palm/hearth stone or a warm cat.

I have my emergency altar-in-a-bag and a small wand for visiting supposedly haunted houses in case of something actually bad being there

Re: Wands and Athames
In my Tradition , my *Copper Athame* corresponds to Spirit , with Sea Salt...
Yew Wand / Fire
Red Oak Sword / Air
I will use the Athame , with or without Sea Salt , for cleansing , healing the body ,
such as "cutting" energy out , and directing the vertical current of Blue Fire...
( Blue Fire being the mixture of , and source for the four elemental currents )
We use a specific chant / series of sounds , for mixing the elements...
Which forms the octagon , which Dan Brown called the Illuminati Diamond ,
in one of his books...
I shall be posting a thread in Advanced Witchcraft , on this , and Blue Fire...

Re: Wands and Athames
I am actually more likely to use my knife in spellwork than in ritual. Including 'preparing' for spellwork, be it harvesting herbs, cutting cords, carving symbols, etc. Most rituals I do, that do not include a magic working, don't require the knife.
