Remote Control
Remotely guided to the pillars, lost,
designed to fool but not to spare the cost
collected in the form of flesh and bones
incinerated in this holocaust
their RC "planes" have wrought upon the drones...
far better known as patriotic clones.
And now that more than fifteen years have passed,
their flag still falsely waves as it condones
continued demolition meant to blast
our own humanity into the past
or leave it in the shadowed disarray
our less-than-human overlords have cast.
Remote control has truly changed the way
those bold-face cowardly controllers play.

Re: Remote Control
Those do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. I know it isn't the original phrasing, but it's the colloquial one, and I feel that it rings true this election cycle. I feel like this country is on a collision course with a rude awakening.

Wish I were as optimistic about that as you seem to be. It's hard for me to believe that the majority of Americans will ever 'wake up'.SnowCat wrote:...I feel like this country is on a collision course with a rude awakening.

I think if coal miners lose their black lung benefits there will be hell to pay. I've taken care of former miners with pneumoconiosis. They tend to be pretty unhappy about the whole thing. That's the very sanitized version, in consideration of the younger members.

Gray Matter
Gray Matter
As golden armor shines reflecting light
surrounding both the brave and fearful knight;
as blind men sense the silent pantomime
enthralling to the watchers blessed with sight;
just as the innocent confess their crime,
then wrongfully convicted do their time;
and as the poet tries to leave his mark
between the dry and fluid lines of rhyme;
yes, even as the candle lights the dark
that fully clothes the naked matriarch,
opaquely through life's densest see-through veils,
the gray between the black and white prevails.

Not that I'm aware of, but ya' never know. This much we do know: if there is one this year, it won't be concurrent with Imbolc.Shawn Blackwolf wrote:I see we have at least a few poets on this site , Wricker...

I'm a firm believer that the fulcrum is the place to be for those of us who seek to mitigate the ups and downs of life's teeter-totter.

Paraphrasing Nietzsche, "If you stare into the abyss for long enough, the abyss may stare back into you."
With the singular exception of Sylvia Plath, I think Poe may have personified those words more fully than any other writer in the history of literature.
In his own words: "Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before."
To answer your question though, I wouldn't call myself a fan.

Everyone always leaves out my favorite part of this quote, which in my translation begins a sentence earlier:
"He who fights too long against dragons becomes a dragon himself; and if you gaze too long into the abyss, the abyss will gaze into you."
Anyways, if you keep posting your poetry, I'll keep reading it.

Sand Castles
Sand Castles
A singular eternal point of view
amid the ebb and flow of lapping waves
that sweep the columns from their architraves
to resting places in the restless blue,
a sculptor sits alone upon the shore
and sets about to shape with filthy hands
a masterpiece composed of watered sands,
inspired by his dark medieval lore.
Yet, all for naught but life to brutalize
as tidal forces blindly decompose
the master's magnum opuses of woes,
denying only him that sweet demise.
My god, how small and helpless must you be,
to watch as your creation's swept to sea?
