That_Guy: your star wars post was hysterical! It's even better than most things that get forwarded on the Internet in the name of humor! If I had more time to practice, I'd do a live reading of it at the pagan con I'm going to. Only with your permission, of course. (and forward all the tomatoes to you!

Geez. As for the actual topic, I go back and forth on weather it's cool to have movies like that. For one thing, I really like them. I especially like movies about kicking Satanist butt, even though I KNOW Satanists, none of who are anything like that. Suffice to say it's a guilty pleasure of mine.
I also love M. R. Sellars, and he also does go overboard a bit. Granted, it is a bit more believable overboard than you see generally on film, but still highly entertaining never the less.
It reminds me of a comment that my sweetie made to me when we were watching an episode of Law and Order about Fen: "You could complain that the show depicts fen as murders, but it's a cop show. To have anyone in there besides cops, there have to be murderers!"
In order to have a movie about metaphysical mayhem, there have to be people *doing* the metaphysical mayhem. I mean, I suppose you could so something like a witchy ghost-busters, but you have the same problem by portraying spirits as the purveyors of all mayhem. (Thus we get something Buffy-like) Also, if your bad guys don't use magic, then you have a problem with a lack of balance.
