Evocation of Persephone

Post by Victoria Mnemosyne »

In the past, I always associated heavily with Persephone- especially right after my suicide attempt and in the depths of my depression, and the feeling that I had returned from the land of the dead...
So I wrote this myself in a moment of divine inspiration.
I use it as an evocation of Persephone, to bring her prescence into my circle. Usually when my purpose has something to do with rebirth

Evocation of Persephone:
Harken, tale of fair maiden Kore
Picking flowers in the bloom of youth
Wed in secret to a Dark King
Swallowed up by the great Earth
Ravaged, and kept by blood reed seed
Ruling as Queen of the Dead
In silent chambers where dead men dance
And breathe their lifeless words in praise
of a queen both terrible and beautiful
The world grows dark and cold
As her mother grieves
Until she returns again as Persephone
And Gaiea's body burst forth with new life
O Queen Persephone
Let your presence be felt again upon this earth
In this sacred circle wherein I draw you forth

I see the myth of Persephone as a sort of metaphor for the menstrual cycle, this mysterious thing where a girl (Kore) becomes a woman (Queen) because she ate the red seeds (drops of blood, possibly menstrual) and it seems she is dying but then there is a rebirth (the bleeding stops, leaving the woman unharmed, and new life can stir in her womb again)

Therefore I also use Persephone in rituals or spells that involve becoming a woman, loss of innocence and childhood, etc

hope you like it! :)
