My neighbor is dead
My neighbor is dead
Got home today with the news truck in front of the house. My husband came and told me our very wonderful neighbor was killed on his bicycle last night. That would explain his dogs barking all night. I'm stunned and in shock, we all were just talking yesterday afternoon when he said he was going for his workout. He was the nicest guy. ...and now I'm pissed we are going to be in the news, what... to sensationalize his death? I can't stop crying, he has a 19 year old daughter, he was always so nice and never had a bad thing to say about anyone.

That's horrible how they are putting it out like that on the news. Personally, it would be better if they made bicycle lanes where there aren't any sidewalks (and those lanes actually have some space instead of being tiny) so this stuff wouldn't happen as much Instead of sensationalize his death.
I wish I could say some comforting things to make things better for you and his family but nothing would probably do that. But I will keep you in mind along with him and his family and pray.

I'm so sorry. We've had our share of similar accidents here. It really stinks.

Thank you, ...you are all so nice,
We just got back from a neighborhood vigil, his family showed up while we were there, and were so touched with the flowers and candles. Everyone is kinda numb, but some great stories.
Never understand why the good ones are taken early.
Turns out he was in a bike lane, and it is a hit and run, but they found the car ditched a couple blocks away. So It is probably a matter of time before they catch this coward.
again thanks...It was just so unsettling, I can still imaging him waving to me from his yard.

Then let's hope he gets the justice he deserves, in this world and the life after if there is such a thing. Your neighbor seems to have left good memories His family and friends will remember him for that. My thoughts are with you and all those grieving for his death.

So sorry to hear of the loss of your neighbor Firebird. It is maddening how the news is nowadays! Guess that is why I do not watch it. Let the man be what he is no need to sensationalize a death. I will never understand why they do that. Blessings to you Firebird and of course his and your families.
Re: My neighbor is dead
I think they never broadcast that news real which is fine with me. Our cable has cut off CBS so we wouldn't have seen it on tv, and I never found it on the internet.
We went to a service last night called Condolences. The church is an Coptic Orthodox and they spoke abut 1/3 of the service in an Egyptian language. I find it interesting to see how different religions approach the mourning of their parishioners, they served pastries and water and I saw this as a very good way to keep all those very sad folks somewhat grounded, as it was a very long time to sit, and there were several chair seating rearrangements going on in between the Priests speaking. The actual service is still pending. He has a really large family and I guess they are waiting on folks to arrive from Egypt. His daughter is such a lovely being, I have no words to describe her grace and strength.
Then at 10pm they had a candle light vigil at the accident site with a "ghost bicycle" attached to a light post. The police blocked part of the road for us, there was maybe 150 people there. All the flowers and candles were so beautiful.
The news update is, they arrested the guy who was driving the car.
Thanks you all so much for spreading out the web of support and light even beyond the realm of your knowing, I'm sure his family can feel it and it has touched us all.

My neighbor is dead
I am moved by how he is remembered Firebirdflys. And no need to thank me as far as I am concerned I'm just glad that the person responsible for his death was captured. That would at least give his family a sense of peace.
Blessings to you and your wonderful heart.

Re: My neighbor is dead
Blessings to you, Firebird.
Last weekend something happened here in Anchorage and I thought of your neighbor. Two 15 year girls were walking home from school shopping on the street where I work, on a bike path and a drunk driver lost control and they were both killed instantly. Has broken the hearts of the city, I think about it and I want to cry. My daughters boyfriend knew one of them. Just heart breaking, pics posted yesterday of those gorgeous girls put me in such a sad mood all day.
May all the families and loved ones have strength. You also, Firebird.
Funerals are tough, I feel drained for days. Blessings sent your way.
