Glad you like them Echo of Shadows. firebirdflys, I just cut some roses and put them in a vase. Are the suggestions for their care in the following link good ones to follow (including the aspirin or penny in the water suggestion)?: http://www.wikihow.com/Keep-Roses-Fresh

Thanks.

Ya, they hit on everything pretty well, 45 degree angle is good, course I use a knife and you can get even more water drinking surface that way. I am not familiar with the penny trick. Asprin works well, and the product that come with flowers is great....it's called floralife, ... the most important thing is keeping the water clean and recutting the stems in a few days. Home grown roses won't last as long as roses from the florist, which they breed for size, look and longevity. Fragrance is lost in the process. Under the best circumstances and care they should last about 5 days, roses from the florist a week or slightly longer.
Garden roses with fragrance are my favorite, plus they have a more wild look.
Heck... to tell you the truth the ones at the shop scare the crap out of me, the come from countries that still use pesticides that we have long ago banned.
Eegads I went off on a rail, eh?

No, not at all. It's your line of work so you have a lot to say, and I appreciate your sharing. Yes, the roses I cut are garden-grown, and smell wonderful! I made sure to include blossoms that have several unopened buds attached to their branches, so once the blossom falls away, new ones will bloom immediately afterward. I wonder if a pinch of gardening plant food would work in place of the Floralife.

I keep a small container behind the vase. In it I will put the petals as they fall. Later, they will be incorporated into spell work. Nothing goes to waste, hehe (if I can help it).

I like that Kass... the Goddess hath provided much beauty and bounty for us...we should use it!
I don't know about the plant food...like miracle grow? I try to avoid comercial products like that. The Floralife ain't that great either ...we used to joke about how our lungs would be perfectly preserved becaue of the stuff. I'm more of a mind to wip me up something in the "Bass-o-Matic" or mix the chicken droppings with some leaves, course this don't help much with cut flowers. If you can dump out the old water and replace it daily, that is your best bet, because it is the bacteria thst kills 'em faster than anything.
Blessings, Firebird
