Are Spells for Personal Gain Wrong??

Post by Pussycat1 »

Hi there everyone, I was hoping for some advice from those of you who are more experienced than me on this topic...I am very new to this and have yet to cast a spell as I am worried about any negative comebacks. In no way shape or form would I ever cast a spell with bad intentions, it's more for my own personal use I.e. Help getting a job and maybe a confidence boost... But I have read that no spell should be used for personal gain... Can anyone please clarify as I am confused about what kind of spells I can cast...much appreciated x

Hi Pussycat,

To my knowledge, there's no harm in casting a spell to help give your more confidence or getting a job. Those are spells that are not only self-empowering, but also can go a long way to improving your life for the better (such as landing that job and being able to pay your bills, by having the confidence to do so, for example).

Really, there is no right or wrong way to cast spells. Everyone approaches spellwork differently. Now, casting a spell that's meant to actually do harm to another person could definitely have some negative backlash for the caster, as you might expect. But, if you're trying to create positive changes for yourself, and that's your intention, then your chances of having that negative backlash occur are slim to none. If you're still concerned, why don't you try making a simple charm for luck or prosperity? It could be small enough that the changes may not be that noticeable, but there would still be that little boost you're looking for.

I have heard this personal gain thing around before, but I do not agree with it, it makes no sense. You are a person and everyone on this Earth is important and has a purpose. Technically all spells are used for personal gain, for example: someone you love is sick, you want them to be better so you do a spell for them but it is also for yourself because you wish for them to get better. Anyway... No, there is nothing wrong with doing this kind of spell and I wish you luck on your path -LiebeUndLicht-

LiebeUndLicht I also agree that spells may/should be used for personal gain as long as no harm is meant go others hence my confusion, thanks for your advice x

my only advice is that if you are going to cast a spell for something such as a job, wealth, weight loss, ect. Do everything you can to achieve your goal before you cast the spell. I personally feel like if you aren't working hard for it before hand, the magic won't work for you. That is just my own personal opinion though :)

Hey, Pussycat1,
Personally, I don't see anything wrong with casting a spell to help you get a job. I don't really see it as a personal gain spell, as by getting a job you will actually work to gain any money that come from it. It is for you, but it's not only for you if that makes any sense. After all, everyone needs a job. There is, however, a very good advice here by smogie_michele - don't wait on the spell, work towards your goal and it will come. I mean if you cast a spell and sit home, waiting for the result, that's not the best idea. Every spell works better when you do try to work with it.
As for the personal gain thing, there can be personal gain in just about any spell you might want to cast - for example if you cast a spell to help you develop your inned senses better, that's personal gain too, isn't it? On the other hand if you cast a spell for another person to get a job for example, you might be messing with their karma or they might not be happy on the job and so on and so on. What I'm trying to say is, if you go the "no to the personal gain" road, you can always find reasons not to cast spells.
My advice to you is to be careful with the words, make sure you include the "harm none" line in your spell and make sure your intentions are always good. Good luck.

There is nothing wrong with using spells to help with that sort of thing, at least in my opinion. (: I personally believe that when you do something, it will come back as it goes out into the universe. So, more or less, karma I suppose. Haha. If you do something good, it will go out and promote positivity - even if you're doing it for yourself. As long as you aren't going to do anything that will harm others, then you should be alright. Also to add to what Smogie said, I agree that you should try yourself first BUT you could do a spell to grant you more strength as you continue to work for it yourself. Then if that doesn't work, you could try doing a spell to bring it for you afterwards.

Though, for giving more confidence I think that's a spell anyone can do at anytime. (: Suffering from lack of it myself, I do little things to empower myself when I can.
What I'm trying to say is, if you go the "no to the personal gain" road, you can always find reasons not to cast spells.
Yana, that's awesome. (: I totally agree with this 100%.

Hello,
I see no harm in. Casting spells to improve yourself or your situation. I would however be careful of the wording with any spell regardless of the reason for the spell. Here is an example of what I mean. When I first took my classes to become Wiccan back in 2006 my high priestess and teacher told my class about a spell she did to get money. She didn't state to harm none and a short time later her spell worked, sort of, she had a relative pass away and she inherited the money She asked for. Her lesson learned from that was that now she always adds the words "an harm n, so mote it be " to the end of every spell.

My other bit of advice would be to watch how you phrase things. Here is what I mean. All words have frequencies. Negative words have slower frequencies then positive words, so if you think "don't let me be late for work " what the universe hears is "let me be late for work ". So a better way to think is "let me be on time "

I wish you well in your future endeavors.

"An harm ye none, do what ye will". If it's not hurting anybody else and you're not bringing someone else down to help yourself out, I wouldn't see any problem casting spells for personal gain. I figured most people do it at some point.

It's kind of like praying isn't it? People pray to ask for things of god/ or gods that they need or want to have in their lives. It doesn't hurt anyone. Same sort of thing here, if you cast a spell or do a ritual to better your life than I see it as no different than prayer for the same thing. You apply personal gain every day in your life as it stands (ie: going to work to make money to live and have the things you want buying food/planting food, etc.). If you believe this would do you harm then don't do it, if you believe this is the sort of thing that would help in your life then by all means go ahead with it as long as it is something you are comfortable doing. However, if you have any doubts or are not confident in your actions I would hold off and see if there are any practical means of doing the same thing.
