2015 Gathering of Nations

Post by Firebird »

Welp, the day is almost here when I step aboard the the Southwest Chief at LAX (Union Station) and rail my way to the biggest Pow Wow in the United States and possibly the world. Maybe I will find someone from my heritage, Lenni Lenape!

I'm terribly excited, will be staying with my friend from my original coven in Albuquerque N.M. They also will be doing their May day celebration while I am there, so that is making me really happy, I haven't circled with these folks in about 9 years.

Thanks you guys!
Is there anyone in New Mexico?? I don't remember if there are any members from there....lets Meet up at the Pow Wow!
Wheeeeeeeeeee!
I'm super nervous though, after that epic train ride back from Portland, I'm having quite a bit of anxieties.
Please pray that the seat next to me remains vacant,
that way I will actually be able to get some sleep. It's a 16 hour ride, all through the night, I arrive at 11ish in the a.m.
Packing is a challenge, I'm used to car travel, and I bring everything, hahaha.
cho cho!! Chuga chuga, cho cho!!!

I arrived early, thank goodness, and got a jump on some shopping before things got busy...this is the the home of the Albuquerque Lobos, the local basketball team...I really had no idea this was an indoor event, but there were many side events and dancing going on outside.
Unfortunately all the good photos are on my camera, this is from the tablet so it didn't exactly capture the images in a great way,
The event is held at "the Pit" the arena for the local basketball team

Finally the Grand Entry began and all the Nations represented there came on to the dance floor...not everyone could fit, some would come down and some would leave...The magnitude of the drumming and singing was something that was just unbelievable, as well as the amount of dancers.
WOW
WOW
talk about a mosh pit !!

One of my favorite booths was a raptor rehab group, there to talk about the birds and hopefully get donations, you could get your photo with the bald eagle.
The bald eagle flaps her wings!

There was a tremendous downpour... it hailed with lightning and thunder Oooooo, everone bailed from the food vending area.
Alas it cleared up and I totally cheated on my lack of bread diet, and had a frybread with straberries, whip cream and chocolate!!
pure bliss! (Wish I could have shared that food porn with you, ha ha..so busy eating, forgot to take a pic of it. )
The vendors outside were lucky for the tents

I have a few more days here, then head home,
bright blessings!
a-ho!

I know this is an old post but I am in Albuquerque if you ever want to come back for another Pow Wow, it would be fun to have coffee or something. I actaully talk to a guy on another forum that is Lenape, he lives in New Jersey.

I was just asked by my friend out, to come back!
I'm so overwhelmed with taking care of my mom right now though not sure how I could swing it. I would like to get back to the Gathering too, I hear they changed venues. Maybe I could manage something by April? that would be nice.
Say, if you want to meet up with some cool folks, one of our priestesses is at the ABQ uu church, PM me if you would like more info.
