Thanks for sharing those pictures. And, it cool you share this side of yourself with your daughter. Kids love magic, they are naturals...they are magic.

Hi everyone,

I know this topic hasn't been active in a while, but I figured it's better to reply here than start a new topic.
So, I'm looking into making my own wand, and I would like to use wood from a local park. This time of year there are a lot of sticks and branches on the ground, and if I can use one of them I won't have to do any harm to the tree.
However it has been raining a lot lately, so most of the wood on the ground is going to be wet.
I've never worked with wood before, so I'm not really sure what to do.
Do I need to let the wood dry before stripping the bark?
How long would this approximately take?
How do I protect the wood from rotting or other damage due to wetness?
Any input is more than welcome :)

Certain woods are more durable than others....so keep that in mind.
I would think stripping the bark you could do at any time. But before sealing it with anything make sure it is all dry.
Depending on how thick the branch is and how saturated the wood is as well as the kind of wood it is will determine the length of dry time....though I wouldn't imagine more than a couple weeks in a heated house.
It may be easier to etch or cut patterns in it while it is wet, so you may want to gather a few and practice.
Good luck!
