I like this idea Holda!
Led Zeppelin has always been a spiritual experience for me. I remember writing in a journal when I was a teen, that the closest I had ever felt to God, if there was a God, it would be dancing around the room to Led Zeppelin ORThe Doors, My 2 favorite bands in the world. The other two you posted I am not familiar with.
If I go clockwise though, the Doors are the 4th one listed in that spiral. So the ones to the right of the Doors are the Arctic Monkeys?

Not rock music per se, but I've used a line from "A Very Cellular Song" by the Incredible String band to invoke nature spirits in ritual.

"Black hair, brown hair, feather, and scale, seed and stamen and all unnamed lives that live"

(There are probably a lot of other parts of the song that could easily be used in ritual as well. I particularly like "who would mouse and who would lion, or who would be the tamer? And who would hear directions clear from the unnamable namer?).

Yeap I would say in the last three months I heard them and got hooked. Queens of the Stone Age is Joshua Homme Sometimes people know him more than the band.

There are certainly spiritual elements all through the song.

The lyrics of the Grateful Dead are a veritable treasure trove of potential magical incantations. I could name many, many songs by them where this is the case, but here's Dark Star:
Robert Hunter wrote:Dark star crashes
pouring its light into ashes
Reason tatters
the forces tear loose from the axis
Searchlight casting
for faults in the clouds of delusion

shall we go,
you and I, while we can?
Through
the transitive nightfall of diamonds

Mirror shatters
in formless reflections of matter
Glass hand dissolving
to ice petal flowers revolving
Lady in velvet
recedes in the nights of goodbye

Shall we go,
you and I, while we can?
Through
the transitive nightfall of diamonds

I remember being a child and feeling something very powerful from George Harrison's "Within You Without You". I truly believe in the power of music and love your taste..especially Josh Homme. ;) Led Zeppelin is beyond words....never thought of taking their lyrics and using them twin this context. Cool.

Ditto.
The Beatles wrote:Try to realize it's all within yourself
No one else can make you change
And to see you're really only very small
And life flows on within you and without you
PS: In my opinion, George went on to have the best solo career of any of the four of them. His first two albums in particular, All Things Must Pass and Living in the Material World, are both masterpieces.

Oh, I thought of another good source! I hope it's ok that I'm interpreting this threat as "Popular music and magic" rather than specifically rock music. The freak folk/indie pop artist Joanna Newsom writes really beautiful and intricate poetry for her lyrics, steeped in many layers of metaphor, and I think some of it could probably be adapted to spell work. Here's one I've been listening to a lot lately (lyrics here):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGoNCvoZuYA

The most obvious source of an incantation is this line, though it may be problematic, because she's (I think deliberately) mixing up meteorites and meteoroids:
Joanna Newsom wrote:That the meteorite is the source of the light
And the meteor's just what we see
And the meteoroid is a stone that's devoid of the fire that propelled it to thee

And the meteorite's just what causes the light
And the meteor's how it's perceived
And the meteoroid's a bone thrown from the void that lies quiet in offering to thee

Oh yes yes yes! I adore Joanna Newsom. There is nobody like her! I love "The Book of Right On" I think that's my favourite by far. Great call Yex!

I say whatever music works for a person they should use. If it's powerful for you, go for it.

This comes from my early days. I'm a newbie, but I've been around long enough to know that this will be extremely rough consumption for some. It needs to be LOUD for the best affect. Click the link, and if it's too tough to chew, bail and read the lyrics. RIP RJD

Last in Line

We're the ship without a storm
The cold without the warm
Light inside the darkness
That it needs, yeah
We're a laugh without tear
The hope without the fear
We are coming, home
We're off to the witch
We may never, never, never, come home
But the magic that we'll feel
Is worth the lifetime
We're all born upon the cross
We're the throw before the toss
You can release yourself
But the only way is down
We don't come alone
We are fire, we are stone
We're the hand that writes
Then quickly moves away
We'll know for the first time
If we're evil or divine
We're the last in line, yeah
We're the last in line
Two eyes from the east
It's the angel or the beast
And the answer lies
Between the good and bad
We search for the truth
We could die upon the tooth
But the thrill of just the chase
Is worth the pain
We'll know for the first time
If we're evil or divine
We're the last in line, yeah
We're the last in line, oh
Yeah, we're off to the witch
We may never, never, never come home
But the magic that we'll feel
Is worth a lifetime
We're all born upon the cross
You know we're the throw before the toss
You can release yourself
But the only way to go is down
We'll know for the first time
If we're evil or divine
We're the last in line, oh
We're the last in line
See how we shine
We're the last in
We're the last in
We're the last in
We're the last in
We're the last in
We're the first in line, oh
We're a ship without a storm
We're the cold inside the warm
We're the laugh without tear
We're the smile without the mirror
We're the last in line
We're the last in line
We're the last in line
See how we shine
We're the last in line
