This tutorial will help you construct your own wand using wood, a quartz crystal, some wire, and tools from around the house.
1. Find your wood! Look for fallen branches in the forest or your local state park. Do not break tree branches off as they are still alive if attached to the tree. This is my branch after cutting it to my desired length. You can cut yours using a table saw/ chop saw / sawzall / hacksaw
2. Get yourself a knife or boxcutter ( I prefer boxcutter as it cuts smoother and less liable to cut yourself ) and start to skim off the outer layer (bark) from the branch, exposing inner layers of wood.
3. Now that the outer layer is gone, start to dig a little harder and at an angle to taper the end a bit. Since your going to be adding a quartz crystal at the end; you will want to leave a sizeable amount of wood left to do so.
( notice this has not come to a point as to help inlay the quartz crystal )
4. Get some sand paper. A fine grade such as 220. And begin to sand your wand. This will take out minor imperfections and help smooth it out.
5. Now your going to seal the wand as to help prolong and protect the life of it. Get a polyurethane, old tshirt or high quality rag, and some gloves as you don't want this getting on your hands. Soak a small spot on the rag, and rub the wand all over with it to coat it. You will want to coat the wand several times. ( I do 4 coats )
6. To speed the process up between coats leave your wand in front of a space heater for an hour to dry it up to the touch.
7. While your waiting for the wand to dry clean up those shavings and set them aside in a paper lunch bag; as they can be used to represent the earth element during a ritual.
8. now get out your drill, drill bit, and quartz crystal. The drill bit and crystal should be roughly the same size or a bit larger. Drill a hole large enough into the top for the crystal to fig snugly inside.
9. Fit crystal inside snugly.
10. Using copper wiring wrap about and inch below the crystal - onto the crystal itself a bit. Then secure the wire with a few twists and snip the excess wire off. You can then cover some of the wire if you would like to for looks.
11. Stand back and enjoy the fruits of your labor, bask in the awesome glory of your new wand that you made yourself!
You can add stones, crystals, embellishments, leather, etc from this point to your specifications.
