I listened to this at work today and I have to say I love it. Granted, you can tell it's very Christianized but as long as you go in understanding that it's very cool! I really wanted to be able to read the myths but I don't have the motivation or drive to just sit still to do so. Thankfully listening at work is something I CAN do so this is great!

Thanks so much for this link! I'm the same way about motivation. The Christianity is good for me. Since every thing i read about Norse legends is always complaining about Christians. Now i just need to find some Celtic legends.

Azure Lily, I'm not sure what you've read that complains about Christians? I'd be really curious to know! Norse mythology doesn't have it's original stories anymore because many a Christian in the olden days took the original stories and sort of spun it into their own thing. Such as with the Prose Edda with Snorri or with most myths in general as they were also translated and changed by old Christian Monks. This would more than likely be the reason why others would have a distaste for Christianity. I'm not saying that bad mouthing a religion is okay because it's not, but the reason for being sour towards the religion itself I can see why they would.

What happened, if you're not familiar, is that Germanic Paganism was absorbed into Christianity and so many don't know the true beliefs held in Norse religion at the time. So all the myths we have now stem from the Edda's, mostly, and unfortunately as I mentioned because of the absorption into Christianity itself, the stories were spun in a more Christian light in an attempt (or so scholars believe) to sway others from the practice and belief of the Christian Devil.

So in these myths, this audio recording in particular, Loki was painted as the "Devil" when really that's not what he was/is. It was one of the methods used to try and convert others into Christianity back in the day. Once again, I want to make it clear I'm not bad mouthing Christianity at all! I just wanted to help explain since you said you've looked into it before. ^_^

Yes! I did! I had to keep from laughing at work because some of it was pretty funny. I'm still a little peeved that this really paints Loki as evil when he's not... And I get a VERY strong feeling of "Nope, nope, nope" from him as I was listening to it but it's still really good and helps to introduce you to some of the important myths. ^_^

I dont read norse things that much. But i know when reading things about celtic religion, there is lots of anti saint Patrick things. Im personally ok with all religions that make people happy. I dont however, like those end of days fringe cults.

My friend is a norse wiccan. I'm gonna show him these links. He is a christian hater though. Hes just very adamant about not being christian. I used to be anti christian (but then i got over myself). We all have our reasons though. I know i do.

As for Celtic Mythology, I'm not too sure on that one. I've not read too much on Celtic Mythology as I made the switch from that to Norse pretty quickly.

Alright, reading through the description for the book it SOUNDS like it might have the myths in it but how true to the originals (or rather, as close to the originals as we can get) they are; I really have no idea.

By end of days fringe cults i mean things like the Heaven's Gate cult and the People's Temple.
