First pagan temple wants to open around Austin, Texas

Here is the link.

I hope they make it. I moved here from Texas and I would love to see more pagan services/temples. While Austin is totes liberal, many places in Texas are considered the "bible belt" and there's a lot of evangelists there.

Interesting. I hope they make it. It cannot be easy to be pagan in Texas.

That's exciting, I hope it works out well. As you folks have said. Paganism can't be an easy road there. It would be nice for folks to know they aren't alone.

I live in Texas and yes it is definitely the Bible Belt! When I practiced hypnotherapy I had some people even tell me that I was letting the devil in. But I will say that Austin is the one liberal city in this state. It's the refuge for all the weirdos ;) they even have a slogan, "keep Austin weird". It's all over shirts and bumper stickers in that town. And they even have a commune. So if a pagan temple was going to make it anywhere in Texas, it would have to be Austin. And I hope it does cause I wanna visit!

There was a lot of Buddhists in Houston when I was there, but that was it on alternative religions. All pagans were sparse and not organized. It would be lovely if they got the donations they need. I have been sharing as much as I can.

Houston does have plenty of Buddhist and Hindus because there are so many Asians and Middle Easterners. Literally equal parts of all the ethnicities around here. I actually went temple hopping in before I found Wicca. Lol. I knew I needed to find something, just didn't know what. It was nice to experience all the different cultures and beliefs. The pagans really keep to themselves though. They are some covens but most don't advertise so you have to find them through word of mouth and even if you find them they try to scare you off. They're trying to weed out the people who are just doing it for kicks. That's understandable.

It continues to surprise me the amout of pagans in Texas!
I think if you look through the "where are you from" thread over the years many chime in from there :D This woman who has been circling with us recently moved here from Texas.
I saw the ADF guys were doing temple work in Washington state too!

I rather fear it will be met with a lot of resistance. Deep rooted Christians are not too welcoming of other religions especially paganism.

Any pagan temple is sure to meet some kind of resistance because people are resistant to change and not always accepting of alternate religions. I remember having a mosk first being built in my hometown was met with a lot of protest. It died down until 9/11 happened. People will grow bored and leave things as they are so long as they don't receive the attention they crave. This isn't the case with Christianity in particular but people as a whole.

I only mentioned Christianity as it is the majority religion in that area.

It'll be around Austin which is fairly liberal and tolerant, so it will be the path of least resistance in this particular case.
