The sky has been a favorite subject of mine. Since we moved to Nevada we have been blessed with a sky of unique designs, beautiful sunrises and sunsets backropped by the lovely Sierra Nevada mountains.
One such unique phenomena that I hadn't encountered until living here were these rounded almost saucer like clouds looking like stacked plates called "lenticulars". These only form near mountain ranges as the wind must come up off the mountain tops and reach a certain level in the atmosphere to create these.
They are an ominous vision for the small time pilot as they mean high winds and moderate to heavy turbulence for a small aircraft.
To me they are beautiful works of art, every day unique. These are images I captured tonight, enhanced to show texture and contrast.
