God/Goddess/Deity with a relation to rabbits?

Post by Narisa »

For some reason throughout my whole life I've felt very connected to two animals in particular: goats and rabbits.
I've always clicked with and gotten along very well with goats, but on a day-to-day basis I tend to see many wild rabbits. On quite a few occasions I've been able to get very close to them without scaring them off and whenever I see one I feel very serene and at ease.

Anyway, I was wondering if there are any deities with a relation to rabbits? I've been searching through old posts and haven't really found anything. If I'm being called to a certain deity I'd be thrilled and honored.

First one that comes to the top of my head from my own culture is Chang'e, the Chinese goddess of the moon. It is said that after her banishment to the moon, she is accompanied only by the Jade Rabbit, who is forever pounding out the elixir of immortality with his mortar and pestle. You can still see him doing just that:

Whoa, that's really cool! I feel like I've heard tales of her before. I'll have to look more into that, thanks!

There is the Mayan moon goddess Ixchel, sometimes depicted with a hare.

Hares and rabbits are sacred to Aphrodite, Eros, and Hermes.

Can't believe nobody's mentioned Eostre/Ostara yet, the Celtic Godess associated with the spring equinox (Easter!), also: Freyja and Holda in Norse mythology.

Basically, hares and rabbits are a symbol of fertility, so many fertility gods and goddesses are connected to them. Now you know a few names, Narisa! :)

But may I ask why you think why you would think you can find out what god is calling to you by browsing through a forum? Not to offend you! It just deems not like a tactic I'd ever think of when it comes to identifying a spirit contacting me. I'd go with conversation first.
May the Lord and the Lady bless you.
