It really is funny, I wonder how many concepts there are that we call differently and have no idea about it.
I thought they might be the same plant, but because of the angle and the light, I didn't want to risk it:-P

Linguistics and etymology are fascinating subjects. And the most fun are "false friends" - words that sound the same but have completely different meanings :-)

I had no problem growing any type of plant when I was in the mountains,
I've usually had an aloe when ever I was stationary for any length of time...
Fast-forward to move to the high desert in Calif.
We moved down here to help his Mom and Sis with the rent...couldn't
grow anything in this blasted place(M-I-L anxiety?), then I got a cutting
from my Aunt's black raspberry plant and kept it rooted in narrow bottle
for a couple years on the window sill in bathroom until hubby knocked
it off. So I took a chance at putting it in some soil, yea it lived !
My last aloe was a present from S-I-L back in 2000, then I got a "tuxedo"
kitten who decided to sit in the middle of it and it wouldn't come back :(
All my plants had to be outside or Charlie would eat them, blast it ! This
may be the desert, but it gets cold in the winter...so much aloe will go
purple if not protected.
I'm trying once again to grow plants, I have a very small patio to where
I am only allowed to have 6 plants on patio :x So I have a mint plant
I got from grocery store in a pot outside in a stand. I have my Mom's aloe
she had in her motorhome before she passed. I have another S-I-L's large
"leaf" aloe plant she gave me when they moved north, that one's doing
good with new leaves finally !
My Mom's aloe is trying to travel outside its pot, bunch of babies on it
I took off and set in a larger pot with a "rosette" type leaf pattern that
was already in the pot when I got it. I'm surprised they are all still growing
since I have a hard time getting anything to grow here. I keep the aloe
against the patio wall with a rug under the pots. They all made it thru
what little bit of winter we did get this last year...I've slept under a
sheet and a fleece blanket all winter, if that gives you any idea of the
weather we've had ? I wish I could bring some plants in to clear the air
in here.
I collect crystal skulls, and hubby bought me a fancy skull with an
air plant in it and it sits in kitchen window that faces the sidewalk
and my end of apt gets no sun in there only bedroom window and
slider to patio...brrr ! All doors face inside.

I bought two shamrocks after they were marked down. Put them in hanging pots, since the cats look at plants, and think "SALAD!!!!" When Tag was still with us, he used to fish the baby red lettuce out of the salad bowl and eat it. I miss my big ginger boy.
