"Each being is a broken hymn.",
a thinking man once said.
Expanding on that rather grim
well-orchestrated thread:
conceived in our composer's mind
to be a song of praise,
our lyrics change to undermine
the tune in many ways;
we start out full of promise, true,
with childlike refrains,
then tend to gradually accrue
a grown-up's aches and pains,
crescendoing until a hymn
of broken dreams remains.

I am never interested in amateur poetry.
It is always as disappointing as karaoke.
This is different.
I'm impressed.

Oh yes Pallando, mr. Wricker has many quite good pieces here. Go have a look if you haven't already

Re: The Hymn of Our Remains
After some thought, I think that deserves more than a simple 'thank you'. Let me start by saying, without question, I've done my fair share of karaoke singing in the course of my development. I can't speak for all "amateur" poets, but I've seen myself as a 'work in progress' up to this point and I really don't expect that to change any time soon (maybe ever). The idea that there's always room for improvement may indeed be a cliché, but that doesn't effect its inspirational value to me. To put it another way, my enduring assessment that I have such a long way to go has been a major cog in the machinery that has kept me going.Pallando wrote:I am never interested in amateur poetry.

Just, please, try to bear in mind: whenever you come across the maudlin meanderings of some angsty kid, you may well be witnessing the first wobbly steps of a future Frost or Plath. So, try to cut 'em a little slack.

I find it hard to read poetry in English, but I really enjoyed this piece. Thank you for sharing.

Sadly, as a native speaker of the tongue, I can totally relate!YanaKhan wrote:I find it hard to read poetry in English, but I really enjoyed this piece. Thank you for sharing.
