Another crystal identification thread

Post by Karma Khaos »

I've had this stone for the longest time, and have yet to figure out what it is in spite of tons of searches. I'm very drawn to it, and honestly took to it so naturally that I didn't even stop to think about where it came from. As far as I can remember, I just picked it up somewhere in my house at some point without questioning its origins whatsoever.

So my two questions would be,

A) does anyone know what kind of stone / crystal this is?

B) what does it mean when you connect with something so naturally? Does it mean that it's something you need in your life, or something that you naturally have in your life, or... something entirely different that I never even thought of, or...?

The color suggests amazonite. https://meanings.crystalsandjewelry.com/amazonite/

When we're drawn to one particular stone like a hunger it has something we need, IMO.

Interesting! I have a couple things in amazonite already, and it's definitely a stone that I've been working with regularly. I've only ever seen the variety that has the blue-green coloring. It's strange / interesting, but the majority of the things listed in the article that amazonite is useful for are very much common themes in my life. Also, quite a few of the other stones mentioned in the article that work well - moonstone, aquamarine, and labradorite, mainly.

Thanks for the help!

It looks to me to be a tumbled milky quartz. Here again it is hard to tell in the photo. It could also be selenite or ulexite (T.V. stone). Does it have a shimmer when you turn it, like tiger eye?

No shimmer. I looked at the stones you mentioned and it *could* be ulexite or milky quartz, but the clear speckled band makes me think maybe not? Ugh. I'll post a couple more pics a little later, maybe that will be of more help.

maybe it's me, but it looks to have a very slight lavender tinge going through the center...could it be the edge of amethyst ?
oooh cool, you have a glass crackle bowl. Did you make it? It was one of my favorites to make in ceramics.

Nah, I got it from Ace Hardware for $5. lol I wish I could make stuff like that. My hands don't cooperate with me that well.

As far as the lavender tinge... I *think* that might just be the lighting? I can't be sure. I feel like none of the pictures I take really show it clearly enough, but it's the best I can do.

When I look at it closely in person, all I can see is the grey and white tones with a couple black specks, nothing really purple to it.

I'll stick with it being tumbled white quartz or tumbled white agate. the black specks make me think it could be the latter of the two.

Yep I'm with Spirit, not sure about the Botswana part but it looks more agate-esk than anything else. :fairy:

Thank you all for your input! I've been doing some research (mostly comparison through google images) and here are my thoughts:

1. You're right, it's probably some kind of agate.
2. It could be white / white banded agate, or...
3. it could (maybe?) be a broken off and tumbled portion of a gray agate that had a rather thick white banding through it? I don't really know how that works. If part of a gray agate gets broken off and happens to have more white than gray, does it now become white agate based on the fact that it's primarily white in color, or is it still gray agate? lol
4. White lace agate - is that a thing? I searched it out of curiousity, and I did find pictures that were called white lace agate (and look kind of similar to what I have), but there were so few of them that I have to wonder if the pictures were just inaccurately named.
