I do as well. It has given me more conveniences but everything has its pros and cons. Sometimes I want off Facebook but it does keep me up to date with events going on. My experience is unique. I went through high school without internet and first used it in my freshman year of college. So I haven’t experienced child life with it or adult life without it.

LoL, me as well.
too much knowledge too quick, it exacerbates attention problems.

I kinda miss hanging out in libraries to gather information, the internet makes that a passe habit unfortunately. Not to mention I really miss the card catalogue, so quick and easy...now you gotta find your card, make a profile, log in, choose section, choose department, know the name of the author... and wait in between each because the computer can be very slow.
Now I mostly just go straight to the 130.0 section of the Dewey decimal and see what they have.

Still holding out on the Facebook front, but I do see people on there I would really like to get back in touch with again. Just last week I was looking at a friend form HS, and thought I really need to make a profile so I can reach out to him and say HEY! What ever happened when you got back from Hawaii...30 years ago? ...well two days later a mutual friend from that HS, (which was a continuation school, so everybody knew everybody), told me he had suddenly passed away.
I hate what the internet has done to spread lies, but I love that I can google map anywhere in the world and go on a mini vacation! goodnevil

I'm a 90's kid, so I don't remember a time before the internet, but I remember when it was so slow that porn was just in image form because it took too long to download videos, and you had to wait all day for the picture to load...

Peoples' lives were not ruled by technology and you had to call your friends to get in touch with them, and it was always to see them in person. Obviously, I would not like to go back to that period of civilization, as I am using a wireless connection to access this site, but I think the culture is worth bringing back. Things were slower and more direct. You needed social skills to actually DEAL with people. I think the "internet detox" fad is a sign that there are more people who feel that they are too dependent on technology.

Anyway, that's enough for now. There's some food for thought!

I was born in 82 and grew up through that time. I was introduced to computers with one of the older ones in which you had to access games and programs through DOS and type in the code. This also included floppy disks. Then we got advanced and got dial-up internet. We still didn't spend that much time on the internet as we do now. I agree, I miss those times too. Now kids want electronics and don't want to do be active. I was in the girl scouts and loved spending my time outside. My nephew is lucky to go on camping trips with his parents, but he is still obsessed with his ipad, switch, and even iphone. It's crazy.

I look at things differently now.. alot I feel I took thing for granted..
Though at times I was unaware what was going on..
The 80's was fun time it wasn't perfect.. there were issues.. but as kid back then I wasn't afraid..
I felt free.. We now live in world where we feel trapped ..
By alot things.. I look back even in the 90's it was good..
Before internet .. kids didn't have worry much by late 90's
then things changed.

I was just talking to my son about this. I'm all for technology advancement, but I feel there is less physical creativity. New technology isn't really new. The attention on money is disgusting. No one has time for traditional gatherings nor are they interested in keeping them alive. Video chatting is cutting pure connections.

I look at him and I feel bad. I grew up outside in the 90's. He has been home for the better part of his childhood and is even more anxious than I am about creating bonds with friends and family. I wouldn't let him walk to school because generally, life is just worse than it was when we were growing up. I wanted him to have more than I did, but even with all of this "advancement" it seems like he has less.

Yeah we lost something with technology there is good and bad with it..
I can reminisce about the time I grew up in
Even fantasize if I could back with the mindset I have now..
I smile it would be rather interesting...
Children today will likely never know the freedom and innocence we had.
Which is so sad..

I agree completely
Spent most of my time in the field above my house building forts, flying kites and playing hide and seek. The yellow mustard grew several feet above our heads. We also had a perfectly sloped hill for soap box races, skateboarding and bicycles. Street King stakes ruled the day!

Those times were golden!

A related note. A few weeks ago, I saw in the grocery store a National Geographic special edition on a topic of my interest. I bought and read it. Inside was a mail-in subscription card. They still have those. With a year’s subscription being cheap, I decided to fill it out, mail it in and subscribe. Even though it says I can order online, I am taking the opportunity to relic the old days. Subscribe to physical magazines and read for the pleasure of reading.
