Oh my,
Well, that is quite a predicament. I would suggest that you listen to your husband if he is so strong-willed about this.
Perhaps when he was trying to enchant the mirror he called upon a seriously negative energy. If this is the case then it is possible to cleanse the mirror with several spells.
That or a perhaps a spirit is trapped in or with the mirror. Not much I can tell you if this is the scenario.
