My Pagan Path? I'm Confused.

Post by Thirteen »

I'm wondering if someone here could help guide me towards an appropriate path?

I've been trying to find my own and nothing truly connects.

I feel like I'm just being foolish. :anxious:

I believe...

- The elements (Earth, Air, Fire & Water) should be respected and honored. Earth provides stability, nourishment and protection. Air allows life, it gives us a voice to be heard and encourages freedom. Fire brings warmth, destruction and rebirth. Water hydrates the physical bodies of humans, plants and creatures.

- All creatures should have our respect and compassion, even those we might be fearful of. I have nothing against consuming meat, as our ancestors did the very same and animal meat is nourishment for our bodies, but I also firmly believe that all creatures should be honored and treated with kindness. They should have freedoms and we shouldn't hunt more than what we need. If an animal is killed, the entire body must be utilized in some way.

- I honor my deceased family members, animals and humans equally. I don't know where they've gone, if anywhere, but I keep them present in my memories.

- I practice magickal crafts with crystals, stones, herbs, flowers, plants and I believe that they each hold properties that can assist us in our daily lives.

- I honor the Moon and Sun, but not as the Goddess or God. The Moon, in my opinion, is the female aspect of our lives and the Sun is the male aspect.

- I don't know if nature has a soul, spirit or essence...but I do believe that nature is in balance with itself. Nature is to be cherished and honored. If we take from the Earth, then something must be returned or gifted. I find nature beautiful in all forms and I love being surrounded in the elements. Specifically with trees or living waters.

- I study Mythologies and I adore the Gods/Goddesses, but I don't believe they truly exist. I associate them with their representations and nothing more. For example, Demeter embodies mothers. Persephone embodies the innocence of children and obligations of women once matured and Hades is the embodiment of death. I may speak of the Gods/Goddesses, but I don't believe they can communicate in return or actually hear my words because they don't exist in a physical or spiritual form. They do, however, exist in all aspects of nature and that's what I honor them for.

- I follow the Pagan calendar, the Wheel of the Year and celebrate all the Sabbats in connection to the myth of Demeter, Persephone and Hades because they are my favorite of the deities.

- I'm not religious and only slightly spiritual. I'm a firm supporter of logic and science. Although, I won't deny a possible spiritual realm...I just haven't experienced anything of the sort.

- I like the concept and ideas of Fae. Spirits, Souls, Essences, Deities and the such...but, I can't convince myself that they are actually alive or present.

- I love crafting in all ways because then I can actually see/feel/smell/touch and hear the creation throughout the entire process.

- I am strongly attached to felines, I have a connection with them that has always surprised me.

- I'm an ISTJ personality type, if that helps at all.

- I'm always second guessing myself and can't trust anything easily, if at all.

- I'm a very skeptical person.

- I adore everything Paganism represents and wish I could find a path that adheres to my beliefs.

- I've never achieved meditation because I'm a very high strung individual.

- If possible, would I want to experiment with deities/fae/spirits/souls/guides? Of course! But, I don't know how and my mind is always telling me that I'm being foolish whenever I try.

- I love gardening and collecting from nature.

- Sometimes I wish I could discard my logic and just accept the beauty and radiance of Paganism completely.

Well, that's about it. If you need more information, I'll be happy to give it!

So are you asking how to move forward ?
How to increase your knowledge ?
What ? Can you elaborate on question ?

The appropriate for you would be "Your Path". Though your beliefs are very common pagan beliefs so I would suggest you to do a bit of research on paganism and occultism, because it will help you settle in your head just what you feel that path is. But if you're going to ask me, you don't need to put label on your path.

Labels sucks. There once a time that I described my path as "Seraphin-ism"/"Murmur-ism -- Haha! meaning I had my own path which doesn't fully fit anywhere. I just make my own synthesis of my own beliefs and my own path. I'm comfortable with Ancient Mesopotamian Paganism, Eastern Traditions, Kabbalah, Gnosticism, Chaos Magick, Voodoo, Santeria, etc. In my own path, I see no conflict or incompatibility between these paths. Since as a matter of fact, all these paths, started with only "the truth" -- "my truth". And since I believe that the "truth is one," it can't contradict itself. Truth is truth whether it comes from the Deities or the Daemons.

The conflict between the paths is just a question of definition. It's more superficial and accidental rather than substantial or essential.

It's ok not to have a labeled path & substitute Eclectic. We don't have to fit a mold or a group. I think it's great that you know what you value. That is huge & not being confused IMO.

Choose a path that encompasses what you want to learn & not what you already believe. And do the research. Be your own scout. Listen to your heart.

Meditation is being mind-ful of your thoughts & actions & isn't limited to sitting still & focussing on silence. You work at finding the methods that work for you. Repetitive motion can suffice - rocking, swinging, drumming, chanting - they involve monotonous rhythms.

Have you checked out pantheism at all?
I am the Earth, The Sun and the Stars
And I am the also the Moon
I am all animal and birds,
And I am the outcast as well, and the thief
I am the low person of dreadful deeds,
And the great person of excellent deeds
I am Female. I am Male and I am Neuter.
